Introduction

Hello all!

I've told some of you that I was thinking about writing a blog while I study abroad in Athens but if I haven't then this blog may be a surprise to you. In any case, I leave from LAX to Greece in three days and I couldn't be more excited and anxious to start my year abroad! I am still unsure of what my roommate situation is and my classes are not set in stone yet but I am hoping to be enrolled in philosophy, Greek Literature, and an archeology or art history course. I will be taking Modern Greek Language for the year so hopefully I'll start picking it up quickly because I am giddy to begin traveling all over Greece!

I hope you all will continue to check up on me via my blog because I plan on posting my adventures (hence the cheesy name for my blog) and I'd love to hear your comments and questions and anything you'd want to say to me at all!

My next post will be after my arrival in Greece so until then "Herete!" (pronounced Hee-ye-reh-teh.) It means be happy!

Love,
Mia

  4. Hi Mia!

I did a little wandering online; turns out that there are 3,000 Jews living in Athens and two synagogues. The first is Beth Shalom, a Sephardic shul that might be great to go to for Rosh Hashana/Yom Kippur. The shul is gorgeous in the pictures. It's at 5 Melidoni St., Thission -- thission might mean a bus or some mode of transportation, but don't quote me. (The ladies have a balcony where they sit.) The other shul, "Ioanniotiki Synagogue," is open only on Rosh Hashana & Yom Kippur. There's also a Jewish museum in Athens, reputed to be one of the most beautiful in the world; it's at 39 Nikis (Street? Avenue?). Wish I could go.

Anyway, have a wonderful, sweet, safe and productive New Year!

    Love, Aunt Andrea
